WOW. I did Melbourne Marathon yesterday. The 2016 edition. And boy was that an adventure. Every time I feel that I’m making progress running marathons, something happens and thud I’m brought back down to earth. This time by a gust of wind.
Marathons are hard. No doubt about it. I’ve done 8 now and they do not get any easier. I signed up to Gold Coast late last year. I thought this was my chance to do a really good Marathon time given it was a super duper flat course. But as I’ve learnt with running and in particular training for marathons, nothing ever goes as planned…
Most of my marathons tend to be well planned out. I do adequate training, with multiple long runs spanning over 30km. However for some reason this time around, I threw all that out the window.
The Half Marathon is an interesting distance. I always say to people it’s a good distance because it’s less than a marathon so you don’t need to devote serious hours to train yet it’s long enough to keep you honest, that is you can’t rock up on the day and expect to smash it out. Continue reading
